Prom Challenge

-R- has put out the old prom pic challenge and I've never been one to shy away - even if it will make me look like a total freak. So, here goes:

I would like to point out that I am NOT taller than this guy but for some reason I seem to be approaching amazon status in this picture. I'm guessing it has something to do with the 2 inches of poof on top of my head. I do remember freaking LOVING this dress which I got at Bloomingdale's in Boca while on spring break. It had a HUGE fugly pink taffeta rose on it which I promptly removed once I got it home. I called it the M&M dress because it had all different colored dots embroidered on it. This dress is awesome, and I still have it somewhere.

Now onto the story of my date. I was TOTALLY in love with this guy. He was a friend of my brother's and was attending the local community college at the time. I had a huge crush on him but he was keeping me in the "friend zone." He very kindly agreed to take me to the prom though (as "friends" of course). Here's the funny part. The night before the prom, he decides, for whatever god forsaken reason, to get a perm. Yes, a perm. This is not the worst part. Although it is not noticeable in this picture, he had a 3 inch long chemical burn across his entire forehead. Poor guy - we called him "Perm Burn" for the next two years.

So, whatever happened to Perm Burn* you ask? Well, about a year later, we totally fell in love and dated for 6 months, at which point I got scared and broke up with him. DOCTOR Perm Burn is now married with two kids (and I heard from his sister he's moving back to town). Guess I missed the boat on that one (just kidding of course honey!) Galoot's former college girlfriend is also a doctor so I guess we both aimed lower. :)

Here's a funny pic of Mr. Social and me from that night (he took my best friend - again, "friend zone"). He looks so late 80's (oh... and I guess I do too).

*Disclaimer: Dr. Perm is a very cool guy and this post is in no way trying to poke fun at him - just his nasty perm burn.

Dr. Perm Burn - that is hilarious. Did he give himself the perm? How did he end up with a big burn? Also, he kind of looks like Andy Richter to me for some reason.

You look totally radical, dude.

Burn perm! Love it. He has such a goofy looking mustache...Oh, wait...you did that? Never mind...

You and your brother went to the same prom...Here's my dumb question...Are you twins?

R - yes, he totally does look like Andy Richter (I have thought that many times). I honestly can't remember where he got the perm but I'm pretty sure it was in a Salon by someone who should be shot. His hair is like pin straight and he was just trying something different I guess. The chemicals from the perm dripped down onto his forehead and scorched him. Great.

3C - Actually, he was a year ahead of me in school. He came home from college for the weekend to take my friend. We do get that twin question from time to time though.

Your brother is/was a hottie!

And you looked good in you M&M dress!
Got to love that "era"! ;-)

He was such a guy for getting a perm right before a big huge life thing like a prom. ;) The picture is funny but the way you shared the actual events cracked me up. My dresses were horrid too. I don't know if I have any pics here, I'll have to look! ;)

Love, love, LOVE the M&M dress. :-) Polka dots and poufiness... it doesn't get more late-80s/early-90s than that, does it?

Slea - That's funny because I don't even think about that little indiscretion (may he rest in peace) in terms of Dr. Perm and I breaking up. We didn't break up until a few months after that happened.

SPaw - yes, the girls loved Mr. Social (and still do).

Shopper - No kidding - a total guy move. If you have pics we'd all love to check them out!

Susannah - I got a perm once, which if you know me is totally ridiculous because I have naturally curly hair. I looked somewhat poodlish for weeks. Your comment about your bald spot made me laugh out loud!

Stefanie - The dress rocked. I love your story about the prom. Have fun on your Blate!

Are you were GunnySax? Or Jessica whatcha macallit? Those were the big names to where when I went to prom.

tweedyfan - ha! You are totally bringing back memores. GunneSax and Jessica McClintock. I freaking LOVED Jessica McClintock but I'm thinking I never owned one for whatever reason. Floral, floral, floral.

Wasn't that guy in Duran Duran?
