Just Stuff

  1. It is 60 degrees today but will be 30 and snowing by the weekend.
  2. I just saw an albino squirrel in the parking lot. It was freaky. My camera was not on hand.
  3. I caught up on my tivoed Studio 60 episodes last night. I watched 3 in a row. This is the type of show that once you watch one, you have to keep going. It's that good.
  4. Mark McKinney is awesome (by the way, I'm crushing your head!)
  5. Tomorrow night is our city's holiday parade. The kids love it.
  6. My mother-in-law has invited us over to bake cookies on Sunday. SWEET.
  7. We bought a pre-lit tree last night. It is slim and super swell.
  8. I never thought I'd be the type of person to own a fake tree.
  9. What's with those upside-down trees?
  10. Our daughter saw one of her Christmas presents by accident last night. We told her it was for our friend's son. *dangit*
  11. She seems pretty perplexed about the whole Santa thing - why are there different Santas? - who is the real Santa? - are the elves really children?
  12. I've had to use the whole "Assistant Santa" story many times.
  13. I'm SOOOO not done Christmas shopping. What about you?

I Got Heavy & He's My Brother

Am I the only one who feels five pounds heavier than I did on Wednesday? Unfortunately, I don't just feel five pounds heavier, I actually AM five pounds heavier. How is that possible? All I can say is thank God for my low waisted pants (which usually drive me nuts). Today they are allowing that extra five pounds in my gut to lop nicely over the waistband. Ugh.

Turkey day was much fun. Galoot's mom had us over for some serious food and desserts. Galoot made a nice cranberry chutney with cream cheese appetizer. The house smelled just amaahhhzing while he was cooking it (and it probably accounts for at least three of my extra five pounds). I did the early shopping thing Friday then headed out Friday evening to an art opening. Below you will see a not so flattering picture of my brother (Mr. Social) and me at said opening.

He clearly loves me despite the poodle 'do I'm sporting (it really didn't seem that poofy but hey - the camera doesn't lie). Props to Galoot for his mad photographic skills.

Saturday night found us at yet another performance by Galoot and Mr. Social's improv group. I most definitely had a headache from laughing too hard (Mr. Social's miming of the word "foreskin" was a definite highlight). Good times.

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend as much as I did!

Out of Office

I feel like I've been neglecting my blog and the whole blogosphere for that matter. I've just been busy with life in general. Kids, relatives, guests, the holidays - it's been a little crazy. I did, of course, take time out to watch "The Office" last Thursday - expecting it to provide an enjoyable break from my hectic week. While I laughed at the funny stuff (Was your dad a G.I.?), the part that's sticking with me is the whole Jim/Pam saga. I'm feeling slightly devastated.

I was totally crushed when Pam had to see Jim being buddy-buddy with Karen. It took me back to every guy I ever liked who kept me in the friend zone* while he flirted with the cute girls. Ugh. Then again, let's be real here, Pam did reject Jim (twice) - and even after she broke up with Roy she never contacted Jim. I'm sure Pam just needed to gain a little confidence (trapped with Roy before but now in a better state of mind). Can't Jim see that? But what's a guy to do? It's hard to resist the daughter of two entertainment legends (the actress who plays Karen is the daughter of Quincy Jones & Peggy Lipton). Even despite her awful hairdo, she's pretty damn cute (what is UP with that hairdo anyway?) And let's face it, Jim needed some ego boosting after Pam "auf-ed" him last season. I'm up in arms here.

So what could happen? Well, we can probably assume that Jim and Pam will end up together - but last week they did a damn good job of making it seem like that might never happen. Will Jim stay with Karen for a while? Will Karen get pissed when Jim finally tells her he was in love with Pam (assuming he hasn't already). Will Pam get jealous enough to use Roy to make Jim jealous? Will I stop talking about these people as if they were real?

Whaddya think?

It's Thursday so I guess that means...

Thirteen Thoughts in Three minutes:
  1. Galoot vacuumed and mopped my living room floor last night.
  2. I'm not sure he's ever done that before.
  3. I took the dog for a long, rainy walk last night.
  4. I like walking around neighborhoods at night because you can look in people's houses.
  5. We walked forever and he wouldn't poo.
  6. After we returned home, Galoot started the vacuum making the dog nervous -he pooed on the floor (the dog, not Galoot).
  7. Galoot was none too happy.
  8. I drank two wine spritzers before dinner last night.
  9. They were yummy.
  10. I have a meeting in 15 minutes.
  11. I work well under pressure (with the exception of this post which seems incredibly boring and unimaginitive at the moment).
  12. Princess called this morning and said she's coming back next week!
  13. Yee ha! More Preppy/Princess fun will surely ensue.

Pam sees Jim to-ni-ight! Pam sees Jim to-ni-ight! I can hardly contain myself.

NEXT!!!

Okay then. If you'd like to see how the weekend went, I'll send you over to Galoot's for the re-cap. Sadly, Princess left this morning so it's back to normal - well, at least for 3 days. Galoot's dad (the Kentucky Colonel himself) and stepmom hit town on Friday. Three different sets of house guests in a span of four weeks may sound like madness- but we actaully LOVE it (except for the part where our son sleeps between us - I believe Galoot has a small size 9 foot outline permanently imprinted in his back).

Here's a couple piccies of the kids from the weekend. They had a blast!

Okay, off to wash those sheets again!

Thursday 13

  1. Princess is coming tonight - yee ha!
  2. I have not cleaned my house since my last guests left - boo hoo!
  3. I did wash the sheets in my daughter's room (where Princess will sleep) so at least there's that.
  4. However, I let my daughter sleep on those sheets for three nights so they aren't exactly super duper clean.
  5. I honestly tried to get my daughter to sleep on top of her comforter with an extra blanket so the sheets would be "un-slept-on" for Princess (dang I'm lazy).
  6. It didn't work. She found her way under the covers sometime in the night.
  7. This morning I noticed that my son must have removed his sand filled sneakers while in my daughter's bedroom.
  8. Maybe Princess will enjoy exfoliating her feet (and her ass) on the sandy floor.
  9. Princess is the type of friend who will not care that my house isn't perfect.
  10. She often tells people that she and I are "leading parallel lives."
  11. So, her house is probably kinda messy too right now.
  12. I wonder if her husband recently made lewd comments about Claire Huxtable?
  13. I know for sure she needs a drink as badly as I do (and I'm sure we'll have plenty).

PreppyGirl out.

Randomness Abounds

  • I would like to thank the huge SUV that parked WAY over the yellow line in my daughter's school parking lot this morning. I only needed one can opener and a crowbar to exit my vehicle.
  • I have discovered a new channel on my Sirius radio called Coffeehouse. It plays a lot of acoustic versions of pop songs mixed in with a lot of covers. If you've got Sirius, check it out on channel 30.
  • Princess is coming to visit and I'm totally jazzed. Anyone wanna come to a Body Shop party Friday night? 6:30, my place, BYOB.
  • I saw a coat last week that I cannot stop thinking about. Must. Buy. Coat. But will it still be there by the time I make it back to the store? I'll keep ya posted.
  • Did you vote today? Don't forget!
  • My husband is pretty awesome. He took the kids to the mall last week for several hours so I could have the freedom to clean like a mad woman. They apparently also made a stop at the photo booth (the results of which you'll see at the right).
  • A good friend of mine just moved. I called her number last night and a woman answered. "Hi", I said. Silence. "Hello?" - a voice said "who is this?" - "umm, preppygirl" - then the voice said rather curtly "you have the wrong number!" and hung up. I hit redial - the display showed the correct number. I called my friend's mom who told me the phone company hadn't switched the line over yet and it was still ringing at their old place. The new tenants are pissed about it so they are telling everyone they have the wrong number. WTF??
  • Last night before bed, Galoot was channel surfing. He landed on the ending of a Cosby episode. Cliff had set up a special anniversary dinner for Claire in the dining room. Unfortunately, Cliff comes down with the flu and must stay in bed while Claire enjoys the special Carribbean dinner and music (being played by 7 or 8 live musicians). As Claire sits down alone to eat, Galoot very seriously says: "This must be the episode where she blows all the band members after dinner." All I could say was, "You ass."

That's all I got. Peace!

Mercredi Moment

Nice carving Galoot!
