Preppy Girl's Guide

1. When people take out the garbage and don't replace the garbage bag in the can.
2. When people use up the last: paper towel or piece of toilet paper and don't replace the roll.
3. People who make more money than me, yet are totally inept.
4. The fact that my 3 year old will not pee in his underwear but has no problem pooping in them.
5. My daughter whining, A LOT.
6. Form letters that reject you for a job (that you are clearly qualified for).
7. Not even getting at least an interview when you are clearly qualified.*
8. Trying to pick out clothes for "in between" weather (pants? capris? shoes? sandals?)
9. Not having enough time to clean my bathroom/kitchen/entire house I guess.
10. The daycare not "graduating" my son to three year old room with the rest of his class due to "space issues." He'll be three next month (and I imagine this is NOT helping his potty training).
11. My shoes getting soaking wet in a rainstorm this morning.
12. A co-worker ragging me out in front of 40 people (he was trying to blame me for his own inadequacies - and luckily, everyone in the room knew it).
13. Detroit Neck Tattoo from Project Runway (he's such a poser).

New episode of The Office tonight - Woo hoo!

*This is really more depressing than annoying. I feel eternally stuck at the moment.

So, I totally stole this from another blog (which I would love to credit here but it was a really long time ago and, for the life of me, I simply can't remember). Mercredi (which = Wednesday en français) moments will be my attempt to take photos and show you what's going on in my world each Wednesday. I think this will be fun, especially since fall is upon us (giving me some GREAT photo ops). Enjoy!

Yes, I'm a dork.

As our near perfect day came to an end, we headed back to the parking area to retrieve the mini-van. As we got in, I noticed a few cars getting stuck in the mud, causing the parking lot attendants to direct cars down "the path of least resistance" to the exit. As we were backing out, I told Galoot to get to the main driving path and drive it around to the exit. Now, this would basically involve taking the LONG way around to avoid the muddy areas but would probably only add about 30 seconds to our exit time. (I'm sure you can all see where this is leading.) Galoot assures me that he can drive across the open field and get to the exit faster - the open field where not one other car is driving, including the four wheelers. Mr. Social, whom we followed to the festival, jumped in his minivan and took the recommended route - but even this wasn't enough to sway Galoot. So of course I said, "Fine, we'll go your way - but if we get stuck, I don't want to hear it!" My words were literally still hanging in the air when the tires started to spin. For the record, I was right.

I ran up to a HUGE John Deere tractor (that was helping others out as well). The guy at the wheel shook his head and headed over to Galoot (who was clearly visible in the middle of the empty, open field). I hopped in with Mr. Social while the tractor towed Galoot and the kids to safety (where's my camera when I need it?) Galoot didn't say much when I got back in the car. As we drove, he asked, "Is there anywhere you need to stop on the way home?" I smirked and said, "How 'bout the car wash?" Sometimes being right is a dirty shame.

It's Friday! For anyone who missed The Office last night, please, please please go here and check out the 2 minute replay (there is a link in the purple box on the right side of the page). I just watched it and was laughing all over again. When you're done check out the deleted scenes (which actually start to load as soon as you go to the page). HILARIOUS.

In a recent update, my fantasy football defense was given some last minute fan points for blocking a kick, edging my team into the win column for last week. VICTORY IS MINE - at least for now.

12. My fantasy football team lost last weekend.
13. Even though there are areas of the country where gas is $1.96, it is still $2.74 here.

On the upside, The Office premieres tonight!

Did you know that providing unsolicited sex to your husband on Friday night will result in him doing the following, come Saturday :

• Taking the kids to the park Saturday morning so you can take a shower in peace
• Taking your daughter to ballet class so you can take a nap (with your son)
• Stopping at Big Lots AND the grocery store for items on the way home
• Building a driveway (which you asked him to do 3 months ago) using some old concrete slabs from the back yard
• Mowing the lawn, (which, 2 weeks ago, he'd vowed NEVER to do again after he thought he'd broken the mower forever - *drama*)
• Doing 3 loads of laundry (and folding them!)
• Not complaining AT ALL (and actually watching too) when the kids wanted to watch Willy Wonka for the 37th time
• Letting you sleep in peace Saturday night

***Galoot dared me to blog about us having sex. I out right refused (of course). This is as close as it gets!

For lack of anything more interesting, I think I will tell a story about one of the first times Galoot and I went out.

It was probably about date #4 or so. He decided to take me to a party (more like a get-together) at a friend's apartment (Richard Roundtree). I remember Galoot wanted to pick me up in his truck (which was aptly named "Truck"). I was freaking a bit as I'd decided to wear white jeans and the seats of Truck were so nasty I was afraid of stain transfer. I think I just slid some magazines under my butt before sitting down. In any case, we made it over to the apartment and went inside.

This was your typical, intoduce-my-new-girlfriend-to-my-friends kind of evening. I felt awkward and everyone there just pretty much ignored me (which, in retrospect, was completely fine with me). But Galoot was more than attentive, trying to be all suave and dashing. We walked into the kitchen where he offered me a drink. Just before he began to pour me a glass of wine, he took off his sport coat and tossed it on the kitchen table. We started talking a little when we both smelled smoke. What the? We looked around slowly, thinking maybe it was the smokers outside. I kinda shrugged it off until I glanced over a the kitchen table a few seconds later. "Shit - Galoot, IT'S YOUR COAT!" I screamed. Apparently, he had not noticed the big LIT candle in the middle of the kitchen table before he threw his jacket down. He quickly outted the flames but the jacket was ruined. Smooth move.

Afterward, we drove home and he pulled out a little present for me. It was the book of SNAPS. I laughed so hard I cried trying to read these ("Your mama's so fat, she wears a VCR as a beeper" comes to mind). He's so romantic. Ahh, memories.

Yes, that's Thursday 13 en français (thank you Stinkypaw for the html code!) Here are thirteen places I have visited and LOVED:

1. Key West (always number one with me)
2. Paris (I've been twice. C'est magnifique!)
3. Ireland (I have never seen any place so green. I drove around the whole country on the wrong side of the road. Yes I want a medal.)
4. Chicago (Greatest city in the world. I have many fond memories here.)
5. London (I went in the fall and the leaves were beautiful)
6. Amsterdam (I was only there a couple of days. The falafels where heavenly.)
7. NYC ( I was at a theater conference and saw 4 broadway shows in 3 days, phew!)
8. Hamburg (excellent Weizen beer)
9. Munich (we spent a whole week here with a German friend and it was AMAZING - beer gartens galore)
10. Cincinnati (Galoot did most of his growing up just across the border in Kentucky so we visit this fine city often)
11. Toronto (if you have never been there, go now! Good shopping, good food & Second City!)
12. Destin, FL (white sand, good food & drink, beautiful beaches)
13. I can't pick just 13! Good times have also been had in: Coconut Grove/Miami, Delray Beach, Albuquerque, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Long Island, Baltimore, Naples, Cleveland, Buffalo, Syracuse, Boston, Lake Cumberland and , of course, Fort Lauderdale.
    

What are your favorites?

Yes the concert was fantastic. Natalie was not there but the new singer is so good it honestly didn't matter to me. SUPER COLOSSAL! I got all dolled up (which really just involved giving myself a French manicure and wearing some lip gloss) and had a grand old time.

My Saturday was spent recovering from Friday night. I pretty much watched sappy movies (The Sure Thing, The American President) and lounged around. I took a shower early on but didn't bother to add the much needed "product" to my hair, resulting in a 'do that would rival Buckwheat's. Luckily, I did not leave the house (I didn't want to scare the neighbors afterall).

Sunday rolled around and Galoot offered to take the kids to his mom's for a few hours. YEE HA! I took a long, slow, hot shower (this time taming my hair afterward) and cleaned up around the house. I noticed a "Supernanny" marathon was on so I put it on for background noise. I don't know what scares me more about that show, how awful some of those kids' behaviors are, or the fact that I actually relate to some of the parents. I hate reality TV (and by that I mean, I hate the fact that I can't turn away from it - jeesh).

On a final note, remember everyone that died 5 years ago today. Say a prayer for their families and thank God you are safe.

I am so freaking excited. We are going to the 10,000 Maniacs 25th anniversary show tonight! Yee ha! While there are no plans for a Natalie reunion (oh well) their new lead singer is in very good voice and I'm sure will put on an excellent show. I wish you all could come too!

Yep, it was the first day for of Kindergarten for preppygirl junior. She was so excited she could hardly keep still. Too cute. We pranced off to school (we only live about two blocks away) around 8:15. Galoot's mom was also along for the special day. We took many (okay, probably too many) pics to record the momentus occasion. As we walked, I thought back to my first day of kindergarten and, in all honesty, I don't really remember much (except what I wore - the important stuff). Once at at the school we were swimming in a sea of children and parents all waiting for the school doors to open. A quick look around had me wondering - how did we ever live without cartoon character back packs, insulated lunch boxes and Razor scooters growing up? It's crazy the things you never knew you needed 30 years ago. Anyhoo, it was a fun morning in our little corner of the world.
