Thursday 13 - Why the Hell Not?

Okay, even though I evaded the Thursday 13 last week, I am going to take full advantage of it now.

13 things I've done today:

  1. Woke rather early to jump into the shower (didn't make it through without both kids coming in to see where I was).
  2. Tried to pack lunch as I batted the dog away from my butt repeatedly.
  3. Jumped in the minivan with my daughter and headed out (she does not start school until next week so she's been coming to work with me for a few days).
  4. Arrived at work where I cooked us up some eggs in the amazing egg toaster.
  5. Did LOTS of work (do you detect the sarcasm?) while my daughter watched Barbie's Fairytopia.
  6. Made a trip to our library so my daughter could pick out a book and more movies.
  7. Watched people play tennis (there are 8 courts out my office window).
  8. Did some reports (I am the excel queen).
  9. Met a repairman out in our main parking area. I called his company over a week ago to come fix our ticket spitter machine. I really coulda used him last week before we had 3 sold out concerts come and go. Whatever.
  10. Guided a driving Galoot around the county by consulting mapquest and telling him where to turn. He kept referring to me as his Chloe.*
  11. Leafed through the Avon catalog. I was sitting there thinking, "Why do I look at this thing? I never buy Avon." At which point I came across two separate items which I actually have purchased in the last few months.
  12. Talked to Princess on the phone. She is planning to throw a Toga Party around New Year's Eve, but only if we make the 9 hour trip to her house. Jeez, no pressure, eh?
  13. Thought about what I'll do tomorrow when I HAVE THE DAY OFF - Yee ha!!!

I have GOT to get home and watch Project Runway. I fell asleep last night! - Thank goodness Galoot tivoed it.

Have a super colossal weekend!

Writer's Block Strikes Again

I'm feeling really uninspired lately. My 'season' is finally over at work and I feel a little out of sorts. I thought I'd do a list someone tagged me with a LONG ass time ago (so long ago, I can't even remember who it was). Hope you all enjoy learning a little more about Prep:

  1. Who was your first prom date? - Oh, a guy who was not my boyfriend at all (although, I had dated him once a couple of years before). He was one of my brother's friends whose girlfriend had already promised to go with someone else months before (sound complicated? - it kinda was). I still see him around town (our daughters were in the same pre-K class last year).
  2. Who was your first roommate? - Princess Diaree. Neither of us had a job so God only knows why they gave us the apartment.
  3. What was your first alcoholic drink? - Either a sip of my dad's beer or a teeny tiny glass of wine which I was allowed at family dinners. I'm sure the beer came first.
  4. What was your first job? - Besides babysitting it was working at my mom's office in the summertime.
  5. What was your first car? - This is an easy one. A 1983 two-tone Blue Chevy Citation hatchback. It was a cream puff. I believe we named it Herbie. My brother totalled it in a snowy car accident one night when he wasn't supposed to take it out (come to think of it, he was with my first prom date guy at the time). The accident wasn't my brother's fault but my dad was still furious.
  6. First funeral? - My great aunt I think. I barely remember it.
  7. First broken bone? - The famous broken ankle on my son's due date incident. See this post for details. (and also see a nice pic of me in my cast - ooh, aah!)
  8. First grade teacher? - Mrs. Norquist. She was pretty cool as I recall. She did give me an "N" (needs improvement) on my report card in some subject. My friend Kathleen told me "N' stood for "no good!" I was devastated.
  9. First airplane ride? - I'm sure I was an infant and I'm sure it was to Chicago (hometown of preppygirl's mom).
  10. When did you sneak out of your house for the first time? Tenth grade, we pulled one of those "I'm staying at her house, she's staying at mine" things. We stayed out all night with some guys we barely knew. Great...

Okay, I just realized this list is 20 items long. At the risk of boring you, I'll just do 10 and save the 11-20 for the next post. Until next time...

Check out the View...

Just a quick shout out to Sherri who, after a five month absence, has returned to the world of blogging. Because she is the whole reason I have a blog (she even dubbed me preppygirl) I would like to take this opportunity to send you over to "View from a Minivan" for a look-see. Since we all share the same warped sense of humor, I'm sure you'll be entertained!

Have a good weekend - Peace!

While It's Still Wednesday

I really needed to post before another Thursday came upon me. The old Thursday 13 cop out was getting old (not that there's anything wrong with Thursday 13's, as long as you are posting somewhere in between - which I seem to have skipped lately). Anyhoo, here's what's on the mind of Preppygirl.

  1. Why is it that my DSL craps out every night between 8 and midnight? Seriously, it's like clockwork. It works all fine and great until 7:59 then it all goes to shit. Any enlightenment on the subject from you tecchies is appreciated.
  2. Is cheese & crackers with a glass of yellowtail shiraz considered a well balanced meal? I hope so because that's what I had for dinner tonight.
  3. Am I the only one who plays computer games for the last hour of the work day when she's too overwhelmed to do any of the work on her desk? Bejeweled deluxe is getting a workout this week.
  4. Did McDonald's really think about it before they decided to put little matchbox size Hummer trucks in the new happy meals? I'm sure every mom loves telling people that her son got a Hummer at McDonald's.

That's all I've got. Until next time...

Thursday 13

Okay let's see. I seriously can't think of 13 things on one subject. How sad. I think I'll repeat the same idea from a few weeks ago. 13 things I did since leaving work today:

  1. Picked up my daughter at the sitter (this is sounding familiar)
  2. Let the dog out (who let the dogs out? - prep, prep, prep, prep)
  3. Filled out a Pre-Kindergarten app. for my son (yes, he's only 2 but he'll be eligible for 2007 and it fills up quickly around here!)
  4. Shucked corn while Galoot grilled some sausages in the back yard.
  5. Looked out the window to see three foot flames shooting from the grill.
  6. Galoot motioned for a spray bottle of water - I ran upstairs for one.
  7. I attempted to give him the bottle when he said "TONGS!!" (apparently pinching your thumb and index finger together is the sign for "tongs," not "spray bottle").
  8. Boiled the corn and drank a beer.
  9. Talked about the "seeing-eye horse" my daughter saw at school yesterday (it was this little horse, about the size of a large dog, named Panda).
  10. Watched Galoot eat some charred Italian sausage.
  11. I played it safe and just ate the corn.
  12. Tried to think of two more things for this list.
  13. Gave up and posted.

Hope y'all had a great week!

Panties, Poodles & Pedicures

Soooo, since last I posted, many things have been going on in the life of Preppygirl. Here's what I've been up to:
  • My daughter has been experiencing a "log jam" so to speak. This has resulted in her consumption of every type of fruit juice known to man. This of, course resulted in some leakage (are you grossed out yet?). Poor thing. After a little accident at my mother-in-law's, I found myself hanging my daughter's (washed out) panties out the car window for a quick air dry on the way to a birthday party.
  • My mom arrived Sunday night. She very graciously agreed to take the dog to the groomer's for me Monday morning. He is a standard poodle and REALLY shaggy (which we like, but it was getting out of hand). I talked to the groomer on the phone and asked her to just trim him up a bit (we don't want him to actually look all foofy like a poodle). Well... unfortunately, his fur was matted under his eyes and chin so it had to be shaved off completely. When I picked him up, I very seriously didn't recognize him. I kept thinking, "Galoot is gonna kill me, Galoot is gonna KILL me." He looks like a poodle. And to top it off, they'd tied a rainbow striped kerchief around his neck and gave him a pom pon on his stubby little tail. Great.
  • I finally used a gift certificate my mom gave me for a pedicure. I was almost embarrassed to have one (my feet were SO bad). Damn it felt good. And I picked "Edin-burghundy" for the color (in honor of Galoot's trip to Edinburgh, Scotland). I topped the whole treatment off with a new toe ring. My feets is lookin' fine!

A few more days of Mom, then Galoot comes back. Seems like he's been gone for eons. Can't hardly wait!

Thursday 13

For lack of anything else to blog about, here are 13 things I did since I left work today:

  1. Picked up my daughter at the sitter's.
  2. Drove like a bat outta hell to the daycare to get my son.
  3. Made my way toward Wally world for dog food (yes, I had on my Walmart shoes)*
  4. Had to make a pit stop at my dad's so my daughter could use the bathroom.
  5. While there, Galoot called to tell me he's having fun in London.**
  6. Finally made it to Wally world.
  7. Picked up some dog food and other essentials (pizza, yogurt, raisin bran, granola bars, a birthday gift for a girl in my daughter's class, American cheese, eggs, a booster seat)***
  8. Came home and let the dog out (I'm sure his bladder was ready to burst).
  9. Yelled at my daughter for whining incessantly (I hope it's just a phase - jeesh!)
  10. Cooked the pizza (if you have a super Walmart I highly recommend the deli pizza!)
  11. Served the kids then ate my pizza while I talked to my mom on the phone and drank wine.
  12. Planned stuff for my mom's visit next week.
  13. Blogged for your entertainment.

That's it! Have a great Friday!

*I would really have liked to link to wordnerd's post about walmart shoes, but blogger was being a pill.

**Galoot is in London for two days then going to Edinburgh, Scotland for the Fringe Festival. I am not at all bitter that I have a F*CKING job that requires me to be here 24/7 in the summer.

***I definitely considered calling this list "13 things I bought at walmart," then I realized I'd only bought 9 things. Oh well.
