Bring It On
So, as some of you know, Galoot gave me this ginormous gift certificate for Christmas. It will provide acrylic nail service for several months and I couldn't be more pleased about that! A french manicure 24-7 is right up this preppy girl's alley. I got them done last night and heard some really cool news...
The girl who does my nails is beautiful. Long hair, tiny waist, hard body, great smile - She is only a couple of years younger than me but looks about 18. I would basically hate her if I didn't just LOVE her. She's gotta be one of the nicest people I have ever met (either that or she's really workin' for an awesome tip). Seriously though, she's awesome.
Anyhoo, about a year ago, she decides she's going to try out for the local NFL team's cheerleading squad. She hired a personal trainer and started taking gymnastic lessons - no small feat for a woman in her early 30's. She sorta kept it under wraps until she'd made it to the final cut. Well, as you've probably guessed - she made it.
We started talking about it a few weeks ago. She said, "you probably think this is dumb but..." I was like "THAT IS SO COOL. I'm totally jealous." I then proceeded to tell her my whole blackballed-from-cheerleading story. Like to hear it? - here it go...
I was the captain of the "city" cheerleading squad (not school affiliated, it was a citywide football league). I cheered there for two years then decided to try out for the squad at my school. A lot of the girls would transition from the city league to the school league at a certain age. A lot of the girls on my squad tried out at our school that year. I figured being the captain (meaning you got the highest score during tryouts) I was a lock. Uh, not so fast. I would like to mention at this point that for whatever freaking reason, the current chearleading squad at the school (a bunch of 13 year olds) were judging and choosing the new members for the squad. WTF? Apparently, unbeknownst to me, there was a girl on the squad who simply could not stand me - and yeah, she freaking blackballed me. I was the ONLY girl from city league who didn't make it, and I was crushed. For whatever reason, it's still something that sticks with me to this day. And it's not so much that I didn't get to cheer (I'm probably a better person for it) - it's that a girl who didn't like me (which is ludicrous because I am the nicest person in the world to a fault) was able to have so much clout. GAHHHH! Okay, today's purge over.
So my friend who made the NFL squad said she'd carry a picture of me while she cheered so she could "live our dream" for us. I told you she was awesome.

Laughing at Mick's comment - You forgot to say something like "Good for her!" before stating your agenda, haha!
That's great...I'm sure not many people realize a dream like that in their 30s with no previous experience!
Your story is crazy - Who lets other kids choose the cheerleaders? That pretty much guarantees it will be a popularity contest!
You look a lot like your daughter to me in the cheerleading picture. Does she take after you? (crazy question, because everyone has a differing opinion on whether our son looks like hubby or me...I always say he looks like himself!)

As mentioned last night, now you can say you have a Celebrity Nail Stylist. That's a pretty cool story!

That is sooo cool for your friend "who made the NFL" to live her dream like that - never too old to realise a dream, that's for sure! And she is nice to carry your picture like that!
As for your story, it would make a great "teen movie" ("Mean Girls" style), but how can someone not like you is unbeknownst to me! ;-)

I saw some of "Mean Girls" on cable this weekend for the first time. They had the other cheerleaders choose new cheerleaders in that movie...Is that the norm, or what?!?
