13 Things on My Dining Room Table That Shouldn't Be There

Our dining room table sits SQUAR in front of the door where we enter the house from the garage. Due to it's unfortunate location, it ends up as the drop off point for anything in one's hands when they enter the house with an armful. Here are a few things resting there tonight:

  1. My 6 year old's new rainbow framed eye glasses.
  2. Cheap two piece tankini bathing suit from Wal Mart (for above mentioned 6 year old)
  3. Piece of white paper with several cotton balls and a popsicle stick stuck to it (I think it's supposed to be a lamb puppet that my 3 year old made in summer school).
  4. While we're on the subject, there's a huge pile of pipe cleaners, construction paper and glitter from way too many school art projects
  5. Empty Big Lots bag. (yeah, I shop there - what of it?)
  6. Lavender conditioner (formerly inside the Big Lots bag)
  7. Lotsa junk mail
  8. A "sorry our meter reader missed you" hang tag
  9. A receipt from the company that had to come fix our almost new elliptical machine (yes, we were hella pissed it broke but at least Nordic Trac sent someone out to fix it - HOLY CRAP, just noticing this company came here from OHIO to fix it - WTH?)
  10. BonTon charge bill from the new suit (and shoes) I HAD to buy.
  11. Baby gift for The Mick and wife
  12. Rogue Lincoln Log
  13. Naked baby doll

Happy Thursday!

The one place in our house that actually stays clean is the dining room table. There's just something about a pile of junk there with the food...We have a counter in our kitchen that is open both on the kitchen side and the dining room side. That's where all the things that shouldn't be there are. :)

My dining room table is nothing short of a nightmare. No matter how many times I clean it off it still attracts all sorts of stuff.

Do we get to see a picture of the rainbow frames? They sound so cute!

Ok, I have to weigh in here since I've actually thought about this one. When the GF and I moved from Westfield to Dunkirk, we did so without any tables of any sort, yeah we had desks but computers took up those. Me, the cheapskate, bought a bunch of little folding tables from Walsmart but there never seemed to be enough to put all our crap on. So when SUNY Fredonia (my job) had a sale on old furniture items, I was at the front of the line and snagged a big 3 x 8 table for just 10 bucks! When I got it home I asked the GF: do you think that there is a set amount of flat surface that each human needs to be comfortable, or does our need for flat surfaces expand to exceed any amount of flat surface we might have available? Well, it turns out that our needs have continued to exceed the available flat surfaces. My theory (I call it the dave theory) is that no amount of flat surface can ever be enough!

Glad to see that you're back to blogging! Yippee!

Since we don't really habe a dinning table just yet (should be delievered next week) the table we've been using is covered under a pile of things like, death certificates, obtituraries, some "left over" flowers from the funeral, some pictures and my purse! Once the new one gets here, I'll have to find a place for every single one of those things... argh!

Oh, btw, I have no clue who Ronan Tynan is... but glad to read you enjoyed the show!

my table still had two child size plates with left over ramen noodles and uneaten broccoli on them. they've been there since friday.

3C - We clean it off every night before dinner... but we've been out to dinner the last few nights so it's getting a little overloaded...

FlyB - I'll have to rustle up a pic. They are pretty cute.

Dave - The Dave Theory is oh so true. SUNY Fred eh? I may be seeing you there very soon...

SPaw - OMG - funeral? We haven't talked in a few weeks. Sorry to hear. Can't wait to see pics of your new place!

Slea - I found half of a banana under the futon in the back room today. It was black and nasty.

I'd say you're lucky ALL you found was a black banana. I'm surprised there weren't a hundred fruit flies to go with it!

I don't think my dining room table has been used for eating purposes in two years. The last time I got it completely cleaned off was for my husband's birthday last year (for his cake), but he didn't want one this year.

I think I'm going to have to type up Dave's theory (modified to include storage containers) and post it in the house to help me to clean off all of our flat surfaces. Every little bit helps!

Ours gets the same look. There's always a project going on. But I don't have any Big Lots bags. I haven't been there in forever....can you believe that?

Princess' post said congratulations are in order on the job front. Good for you!
