Clearing the Air

No, this is not about my ranting post a few days ago, it's about clearing the air in my minivan - the mommy-mobile. It stinks. I am not sure what is causing this exactly, but I'm sure it has something to do with old french fries, melted crayons and a fruit punch that spilled on the floor during a trip to the drive-in three years ago. As much as I love the minivan, I HATE those areas where the seat hooks into the floor. They are an absolute TRAP for anything and everything a toddler drops.
Galoot drove the minivan Sunday to shoot a video with a few of his compadres. I don't know who was doing the deed but, it stank like cigarette smoke on Monday morning. I'm sure you can imagine how great that smelled on top of everything else going on in that vehicle. Blech.
On my little trip to Wegmans last night, I decided to look for an air freshener. Being Wegmans and all, I figured I'd find something nifty. When I approached the car care items I was sorely disappointed. The only items left were Strawberry Magic Trees and a blue plastic dolphin - tough choice. And so, a blue dolphin it would be. I threw it in the basket and made my way to the check out.
When we got home, I hung "Flipper" from the rear view mirror (cheesey, I know) to let it work its "magic" overnight. I'd pretty much forgotten about it until I climbed into the car this morning. Jesus, Mary & Joeseph! My nostrils burned as my eyes started to water. I wanted to take it down but I was afraid to touch it. I opened all the doors for a little cross breeze, but I didn't have much time to waste. I piled the kids into the car and we made our way to school. Luckily, both kids are pretty stuffed up from allergies so they were tolerating it well.
About five minutes into my drive I realized something - I could no longer smell the putrid stench of my car. Little Flipper had done its job. Eau de Air Freshener beats Stench-o-minivan anyday!
Congrats on eliminating the odor!
Oh, how I would come unglued if someone smoked in our car...

Yuk! Those dolphins really don't improve the "smells", they make it worst! A friend had one in her car, and now I always offer to drive (thus take my car) when we gone somewhere!
One thing I do, when I want to change my "car smell" is to put some Bounce sheets (or other fabric softener) under the seats, in the doors, in between the seats, whereever I think it will help. It works! Plus I have a little bag of Pot Pourri that I leave in my glove box...
Try that, maybe it will help!

I tried that Bounce thing actually. I put one under each front seat but it didn't seem to be working so great. I finally bunched one up and stuck it in the air vent which worked but looked kinda funny (not that a blue dolphin hanging from my mirror looks normal). I never thought of sticking them in various places all over the car. I might just give that a whirl!

Body Shop sells a car diffuser and you can choose your fragrance oil. It's one of my favorite products. Currently I have pink grapefruit in my car but i love the Satsuma Orange and Lemon Grove too. It's subtle and covered up the putrid spilt milk scent of my car.
I guess I know what to get you for your birthday.

My car occasionally gets that funky smell too. I keep Bath & Body Works room spray in there and it works wonders. But you have to keep the windows rolled down a while after spraying, or it will strangle you. I also like to spray their linen spray in there too. They have a eucalyptus-y mint-y scent that's great.
ps...Big Lot's is one of my loves too. I'm so excited because I'm going this weekend!!!
